किसी भी वेबसाइट को बनाने के लिए HTML की जरूरत होती है। HTML के कारण हम इंटरनेट पर मौजूद किसी भी जानकारी को प्राप्त कर सकते हैं। आज के समय में सबसे ज्यादा इस्तेमाल किया जाने वाला कंप्यूटर लैंग्वेज HTML है। तो सबसे पहले ये जानते हैं कि HTML आखिर है क्या?

HTML का इस्तेमाल वेबसाइट और वेबपेज को बनाने के लिए किया जाता है। किसी वेबसाइट को बनाने और किसी वेब पेज में टेक्स्ट, इमेजेस, वीडियो और हाइपर लिंक्स का इस्तेमाल करने के लिए HTML का उपयोग किया जाता है। HTML का इस्तेमाल करके हम वेब ब्राउज़र को यह बताते हैं कि कोई भी जानकारी यूजर को कैसी दिखनी चाहिए। 

HTML हाइपर टेक्स्ट और मार्कअप लैंग्वेज इन दो शब्दो से बना है। हाइपर टेक्स्ट दो वेबपेज को एक टेक्स्ट के जरिए जोड़े रखता है। ताकि अगर कोई यूजर उस हाइपर टेक्स्ट पर क्लिक करे तो वो उसे दूसरे वेबपेज पर पहुंचा दे। इसलिए वेबपेज पर मौजूद लिंक्स को हाइपर टेक्स्ट कहते हैं। 

मार्कअप लैंग्वेज किसी भी वेबसाइट के स्ट्रक्चरल को बनाने के काम में आती है। इसमें बहुत सारे टैग्स होते हैं। जिनके मदद से वेबसाइट डिजाइन किए जाते हैं। इन टैग्स द्वारा पेज में मौजूद सभी जानकारी को डिस्क्राइब किया जाता है। और HTML के सभी टैग्स पूर्व निर्धारित होते हैं। 

HTML के अलावा DHTML, XHTML और XML आदि मार्कअप लैंग्वेज का भी उपयोग किया जाता है। पर इसमें से HTML सबसे ज्यादा इस्तेमाल की जाने वाली लैंग्वेज है।

जैसा कि आपको पता है कि HTML एक कंप्यूटर लैंग्वेज है। जिसका इस्तेमाल वेबसाइट बनाने के लिए किया जाता है। पर किसी भी वेबसाइट को डिजाइन करने के लिए HTML के साथ साथ CSS का उपयोग किया जाता है। CSS का फुल फॉर्म है cascading style sheet है। इसका इस्तेमाल केवल एचटीएमएल के साथ ही हो सकता है। इसके सहायता से ही किसी वेबसाइट को रंगीन और आकर्षित बनाया जा सकता है। 

HTML कंप्यूटर की और लैंग्वेजेस जैसे कि C, C++ और Java से बिल्कुल अलग और आसान लैंग्वेज है। आप इस लैंग्वेज को आसानी से सीख सकते हैं। इसकी सरलता के कारण ही यह लैंग्वेज शुरुआत से ही लोकप्रिय रही है। ये एक केस सेंसिटिव लैंग्वेज नहीं है। यानी आप इसमें कैपिटल लेटर में टैग्स लिखें या स्मॉल लेटर में। इससे फर्क नहीं पड़ता। लेकिन आमतौर पर इसमें स्मॉल लेटर का ही उपयोग किया जाता है। 

HTML एक प्लेटफॉर्म इंडिपेंडेंट लैंग्वेज है। इसका इस्तेमाल किसी भी ऑपरेटिंग सिस्टम में किया जा सकता है। HTML का उपयोग वेब पेज डेवलपमेंट, नेविगेशन , गेम डेवलपमेंट, ग्राफिक्स, इत्यादि में भी किया जाता है। 

HTML 5 क्या है?

HTML,5 HTML का उन्नत रूप है। जैसा कि आपको पता है कि टेक्नोलॉजी की दुनिया में लगातार बदलाव आते रहते हैं। समय समय पर चीजों में सुधार किया जाता है। ठीक उसी तरह HTML में भी समय समय पर सुधार होते रहे हैं। HTML 5, HTML का लेटेस्ट वर्जन है। 

आप अभी भी HTML के पुराने वर्जन का उपयोग कर सकते हैं। पर टेक्नोलॉजी में हुए बदलाव के कारण आप कुछ नए फीचर का उपयोग नहीं कर पाएंगे। इसलिए html में कई बदलाव लाए गए। और HTML 5 को विकसित किया गया। 

HTML 5 में HTML से ज्यादा विशेषताएं हैं। इसमें HTML से ज्यादा नए नए टैग्स और फीचर्स एड किए गए हैं। HTML में कई ऐसे नए टैग्स और ट्रिब्यूट जोड़े गए हैं। जिनके मदद से आप आसानी से वेबपेज में ग्राफिक्स, ऑडियो, वीडियो एड कर सकते हैं। पहले आप सीधे वेबपेज में वीडियो, ऑडियो नहीं जोड़ सकते थे। पर अब नए टैग्स का उपयोग करके आप डायरेक्ट ऑडियो और वीडियो अपने वेबपेज में जोड़ सकते हैं।
